Political tensions in Andhra Pradesh escalated sharply after police registered cases against 40 Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders in connection with the violent attack on the residence of former minister and YSRCP leader Jogi Ramesh. Eleven of the accused were arrested on Monday and taken to Ibrahimpatnam police station, but were later released on station bail.
The incident occurred after Jogi Ramesh allegedly made controversial remarks against TDP leader and minister Nara Lokesh. Angered by his comments, a group of TDP supporters gathered outside the former minister’s house and allegedly went on a rampage. Stones were pelted at the building, windows were smashed, and petrol bombs were reportedly hurled, causing minor fire damage.
Taking serious note of the violence, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reportedly directed the police to register cases against those involved, irrespective of their political affiliation. Acting on these instructions, police booked 40 TDP activists and leaders under various sections related to rioting, vandalism and arson.
Meanwhile, Jogi Ramesh launched a blistering counterattack on the ruling TDP leadership, holding Nara Lokesh directly responsible for the attack on his residence. “Even after keeping me in jail for 83 days, is your anger not satisfied, Chandrababu?” he asked in an emotional outburst before the media.
