Retired doctor dies of cardiac arrest after three days of ‘Digital Arrest’

A 76-year-old retired government doctor in Hyderabad died of a cardiac arrest after being harassed for three days by cyber fraudsters posing as law enforcement officials. Between September 5 and 8, the woman was subjected to a ‘digital arrest’ scam — where victims are falsely told they are under legal surveillance. The fraudsters, impersonating Bangalore Police through a messaging app, claimed she was involved in human trafficking and showed fake documents bearing logos of the Supreme Court, Karnataka Police, ED, and RBI.

‘Maoists not terrorists’

The Peace Dialogue Committee has appealed to the central government to declare a temporary ceasefire, suspend Operation Kagar in Chhattisgarh, and create an atmosphere for peace talks with the Maoists.
