Global star Madonna has revealed that her daughter, Lourdes Leon, was initially reluctant to work with her because she did not want to be perceived as benefiting from her mother’s fame.

The singer, whose breakthrough came with the 1983 hit Holiday before achieving worldwide success with Like a Virgin, shared that Leon wanted to establish her own identity.

“She’s been very reticent to work with me, she doesn’t want to be perceived as my daughter taking advantage of her privilege,” Madonna said. The mother-daughter duo has now collaborated on Madonna’s upcoming 15th studio album, Confessions II, which is scheduled for release on July 3. According to the singer, it was Leon who initiated the collaboration.

Praising her daughter Lourdes Leon, Madonna said, “She has a much better voice than I do... She didn’t ask for this… she came to me and said, ‘Let’s write a song together. I think it’ll be a very healing experience.’”
