In a tragic incident on Wednesday afternoon, two contract workers engaged by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) drowned in Langar Houz Lake while removing accumulated water hyacinth. The victims, Kareem (40) and Sahil (22), were residents of Chandrayangutta in the Old City. They had been working for several days to clear the excessive growth of water hyacinth in the lake when they accidentally drowned.

Upon receiving information, police and rescue teams, including professional divers, rushed to the scene. After hours of effort, the bodies were retrieved by the evening and shifted to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem examination. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi contacted the concerned authorities to ensure all necessary safety measures were being followed. MIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin also coordinated with the GHMC Commissioner, Zonal Commissioner, police, and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HYDRAA) officials to oversee the rescue efforts.

Reports indicate that Kareem and Sahil had previously worked on similar water hyacinth removal operations at Shah Hatim Lake. Authorities are now reviewing safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
