Farmers should move away from traditional crops and focus on remunerative crops while realizing the importance of crop diversification, said Bhupalpally MLA Gandra Satyanarayana. He called for creating awareness to encourage farmers in this direction. As part of the ‘Praja Palana Pragati Pranalika’ 99-day initiative, the MLA attended the Gram Sabha held on Thursday at Mailaram in Ghanapuram Mandal along with District Collector Rahul Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA informed that due to an electrical accident, crops on 60 acres were destroyed and four people lost their lives. He said that if power-related issues are brought to the notice in Gram Sabhas, immediate steps will be taken to resolve them. He suggested that farmers should be allowed to take pond silt to their fields. He advised farmers not to burn crop residue, stating that burning destroys beneficial microorganisms in the soil, reduces soil fertility and leads to lower yields.
He said the government is providing all facilities in government schools for students’ education and urged parents to enroll their children in government schools. He added that uniforms and textbooks are being distributed to students as schools reopen. He announced that a Model Residential School will be set up in the constituency with free bus facility for students. He also mentioned that breakfast and midday meals will be provided to students in the school itself.
The government is strengthening Gurukul schools with the intention of making children capable and self-reliant by providing quality food and education, the MLA informed. He noted that many farmers are facing difficulties due to lack of land titles (pattas) for lands they have been cultivating for years, and assured that steps are being taken to issue pattas to all eligible farmers. He called upon Gram Panchayats to increase their income and transform into model villages.
District Collector Rahul Sharma said that the 99-day ‘Praja Palana Pragati Pranalika’ programs are being successfully implemented in the district. He informed that the programs will continue till the 12th of this month, and that Ward and Gram Sabhas will be held in municipalities and gram panchayats on the 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th. He directed officials from all government departments to attend the Ward and Gram Sabhas.
