Hyderabad: Responding to the phenomenon of inadequate growth of height or excess growth of weight among urban children, Medicover Women and Child Hospitals has launched a dedicated growth and childhood obesity clinic in the twin Cities, bringing together pediatric and endocrine specialists to focus on early detection, prevention, and structured intervention. The clinic was inaugurated in the presence of senior child health experts, with Dr Usha Rani T, President-Elect of IAP Twin Cities, as the Chief Guest.
She highlighted the urgency of early monitoring and shared responsibility in terms of regular growth monitoring, BMI tracking and timely nutritional correction. Explaining the clinical vision behind the initiative, Dr Ravinder Reddy Parige, Head of Department and Program Lead, emphasized that growth deviations should never be ignored. Highlighting the importance of routine pediatric surveillance, Dr Janardhan Reddy spoke about the value of regular well-child visits.
From a family and lifestyle perspective, Dr Swathy T stressed the role of daily habits in preventing childhood obesity. Adding a surgical and comprehensive pediatric care perspective, Dr Madhu Mohan noted that early identification prevents complications later. Speaking on the hormonal and metabolic dimensions, Dr Amarnath Kulkarni highlighted the need for integrated care.
The Growth and Childhood Obesity Clinic will extend its reach beyond hospital settings through screening camps, school outreach programs, awareness sessions, and structured counseling clinics across the twin cities—aiming to shift focus from late-stage treatment to early prevention and lifelong wellness.
