The hill shrine of Tirumala Venkateswara Temple witnessed an unprecedented surge in pilgrim arrivals during May, with summer vacations and school holidays drawing devotees from across India and abroad. According to statistics released by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the temple recorded impressive numbers in terms of pilgrim footfall, hundi collections and tonsuring services during the month.

TTD officials said a total of 25,46,168 devotees had darshan of Lord Venkateswara during May. Despite soaring summer temperatures, the influx of pilgrims remained consistently high throughout the month, making it one of the busiest periods for the temple administration.

To manage the heavy rush, TTD made extensive arrangements for devotees, particularly those waiting in the Sarva Darshan queues. Continuous supplies of drinking water, milk and Annaprasadam were provided in queue complexes and waiting compartments to ensure the comfort and well-being of pilgrims during long waiting hours.

Reflecting the strong faith of devotees, the temple also registered significant offerings through the hundi. TTD reported that ₹120.28 crore was collected through hundi donations during May, making it one of the highest monthly collections recorded by the shrine in recent times. Apart from cash offerings, devotees also donated substantial quantities of gold, silver and other valuables to the temple.

The tradition of offering hair as a mark of devotion also continued on a large scale. According to the temple administration, 12,29,773 devotees offered their hair at Tirumala during the month, fulfilling vows made to the deity.

Officials attributed the remarkable figures to the annual summer pilgrimage season, which typically witnesses a significant increase in devotee arrivals. The strong turnout underscores the enduring spiritual significance of Lord Venkateswara’s shrine and Tirumala’s position as one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in the world.

TTD officials said arrangements would continue to be strengthened to handle the growing number of pilgrims visiting the temple in the coming months.
