The Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC) on Monday launched a statewide environmental awareness and conservation campaign under the “Praja Palana – Pragati Pranalika” initiative at the Botanical Garden in Kondapur. The 12-day programme, which will continue until June 12, aims to promote environmental protection, cleanliness, sustainable living, biodiversity conservation and public participation through eco-tourism centres, plantations and awareness hubs across Telangana.

The inaugural day featured a series of activities, including a Clean and Green drive at the Botanical Garden and office premises, a plastic-free awareness campaign for visitors and walkers, removal of plastic waste from surrounding areas, and seminars on environmental conservation and sustainable waste management. More than 150 participants were educated about the harmful effects of plastic pollution on forests, wildlife, soil and water resources, while encouraging the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth bags and steel water bottles.

Speaking on the occasion, TGFDC Vice Chairperson and Managing Director Sunita M. Bhagavat, IFS, said environmental conservation is a collective responsibility and not solely the duty of government agencies. She highlighted plastic pollution as one of the biggest environmental challenges and urged citizens to avoid single-use plastics, protect natural resources and actively participate in conservation efforts.

The campaign will include nursery awareness programmes, bicycle rallies, biodiversity education sessions, World Environment Day celebrations, seed-ball preparation, bird-watching activities, waste management drives, community outreach programmes and eco-tourism awareness events. Officials, environmental experts, volunteers, walkers and members of the public participated in the launch event.
