Dr. Krishna Ella honoured with INSA India Fellowship for innovations in health sector

Dr. Krishna Ella, co-founder and Executive Chairman of Bharat Biotech International, has been awarded the prestigious India Fellowship by the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) for 2025. The recognition honours his contributions to vaccine technologies, advancements in biotechnology, and impactful innovations in public health.

Dr. Ella joins a distinguished group of scientists and leaders, including Dr. Anil Kakodkar, former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India, and Dr. S. Somanath, former ISRO Chairman. Notably, this is the first year INSA has recognized industry leaders, awarding a total of 61 fellowships. Fellows may vote in INSA general meetings and propose candidates for awards.

Expressing gratitude, Dr. Ella said, “I deeply appreciate this recognition and share it with my team at Bharat Biotech and collaborators. This honor motivates us to advance vaccine science and strengthen India’s biotech ecosystem.” His fellowship term commenced on January 1, 2025.

In his debut address at INSA’s 90th Anniversary General Meeting in Chennai, Dr. Ella emphasized "Science in Translation," reaffirming his commitment to advancing vaccine development and public health. Bharat Biotech, under his leadership, has delivered over 9 billion vaccine doses across 125 countries, with 18 vaccines in its portfolio.

Established in 1935, INSA promotes scientific knowledge, fosters collaboration among scientific bodies, and represents Indian science internationally. Dr. Ella’s recognition underscores his transformative contributions to biotechnology and India’s global leadership in vaccine innovation.
