BJP Telangana President N. Ramchander Rao asserted that the people of Telangana have already given opportunities to both BRS and Congress after the formation of the state and would similarly entrust power to the BJP in the next Assembly elections. Addressing the "Meet the Press" programme organised by the Press Club of Hyderabad on Thursday, he said Telangana was now looking for a credible alternative focused on development, good governance and employment generation.

BJP's role in Telangana formation

Rejecting attempts by both Congress and BRS to claim exclusive credit for the formation of Telangana, Ramchander Rao said history would always record the BJP's decisive role in the passage of the Telangana Bill in Parliament. He recalled that the BJP extended unconditional support to the bifurcation bill and stood firmly behind the demand for a separate Telangana state.

He said the BJP had consistently supported the creation of smaller states for efficient administration and never deviated from its stand on Telangana. According to him, the commitment and political will of the BJP leadership, including senior leaders such as Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, played a crucial role in ensuring the passage of the bill.

Telangana aspirations yet to be fulfilled

Ramchander Rao said the Telangana movement was fought for water, funds and jobs, but many of those aspirations remain unfulfilled even after twelve years of statehood. He alleged that both the previous BRS government and the present Congress government had failed to deliver on employment opportunities, job notifications and university recruitments.

Expressing concern over the state's financial condition, he claimed Telangana, once regarded as a financially strong state, was now burdened with mounting liabilities, pending payments to contractors, fee reimbursement arrears and delays affecting pensioners and employees. He said people were increasingly questioning the state's fiscal management.

CM should seek BJP’s support on issues

Responding to a question on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy seeking BJP's support in securing Central approvals for key Telangana projects and schemes, Ramchander Rao said the BJP was always willing to extend support on issues concerning the state's interests.

He said the Chief Minister should directly approach BJP leaders and place specific requests before them. Referring to allegations that Union Minister Kishan Reddy had failed to secure appointments with PM Modi, Rao remarked that Revanth Reddy had never disclosed any instance where a request made by him was denied by the PMO.

"If the Chief Minister comes to us and seeks support for Telangana's development projects, including clearances related to the Tummidihatti project and other flagship schemes, we will certainly examine how we can help from our side," Rao said. He maintained that BJP would rise above political considerations when it came to safeguarding the interests of Telangana.

BJP Leaders' remarks misrepresented

Rejecting allegations by political opponents that BJP leaders in Delhi had made statements against the formation of Telangana, Ramchander Rao accused rival parties of selectively quoting portions of speeches to mislead the public.

He said certain remarks were deliberately taken out of context while ignoring the broader message conveyed by BJP leaders. According to him, a fair assessment of the complete speeches would make it clear that the BJP had consistently supported Telangana and played a crucial role in the state's formation.

Rao asserted that attempts to portray the BJP as anti-Telangana were politically motivated and intended to divert attention from the failures of other parties. He reiterated that the BJP's commitment to Telangana was reflected not only in its support for the Telangana Bill in Parliament but also in the developmental assistance extended to the state by the Centre over the years.

Ramchander Rao maintained that Telangana's voters were now focused on development, jobs, investments and governance rather than emotional politics. He accused both Congress and BRS of reviving Telangana sentiment to divert attention from governance failures. Confident of BJP's growth in southern India, he said the party was steadily expanding its footprint and would emerge victorious in Telangana in the coming years.

Stating that BJP's agenda was centred on development and welfare, he said the party would continue strengthening its organisation across Telangana to form the next government in the state. He explained that Hindutva is their core ideology, but it is not the political agenda of the party, as alleged by their political rivals.

Ramchander Rao accepts KTR challenge

BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Wednesday accepted the challenge thrown by BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and said he was ready to accompany him to BJP-ruled states to compare development models.

Responding to KTR’s claim that Telangana had achieved unmatched progress under BRS rule, Rao said such a visit would expose the difference between BJP-governed states and what he termed a “debt-ridden Telangana”.

“If KTR is serious, he should travel with me to BJP-ruled states and see the development there,” Rao said, asserting that BJP states were creating infrastructure, investments and jobs while Telangana was struggling with mounting debt and fiscal stress.

He said Telangana, once considered a surplus state, was now under financial pressure. Rao also dismissed speculation over differences among BJP leaders, including Eatala Rajender, Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Dharmapuri Arvind, asserting that the party remained united.

BJP Chief links CJP to ‘Urban Naxals’

N Ramchander Rao on Thursday alleged that groups like CJP were backed by “urban naxals”, the Aam Aadmi Party and forces linked to investor George Soros. Speaking at a ‘Meet the Press’ event in Hyderabad, he claimed such platforms existed mainly on social media and lacked grassroots support.

Referring to CJP, Rao described it as a temporary phenomenon similar to the 2015 Patidar agitation led by Hardik Patel. He said Gen Z youth identify with Indian values and would not fall into the “trap” of anti-national narratives.

CJP emerged after controversy over remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a hearing on senior lawyer designations. What began as satire later evolved into a wider digital protest platform focusing on unemployment, exam leaks and education issues.

Rao also attacked the Congress and BRS, accusing them of reviving Telangana sentiment due to poor governance. He alleged the Congress government compromised Telangana’s Krishna water share and failed to fulfil the statehood goals of water, funds and jobs. He expressed confidence that the BJP would form the government in Telangana in 2028.
