Hyderabad’s Botanical Garden buzzed with enthusiasm as it hosted a two-day World Wildlife Day celebration on March 3-4, drawing 430 students from Progress High School, Falaknuma, KGBV Nagarkurnool, and ZPHS Kamareddy. The event aimed to ignite young minds with awareness about wildlife conservation, sustainability, and eco-tourism.
The celebrations began with an insightful introduction by K. Suman, Projects Manager (Eco-Tourism), followed by an awareness session on the significance of World Wildlife Day 2025. At the Environment Education Center, students explored conservation and eco-tourism concepts under the guidance of Head Naturalist Akhil. Y. Aparanjani, a naturalist, conducted an engaging session on the butterfly life cycle, while Akhil highlighted Telangana’s rich wildlife and sustainable eco-tourism initiatives.
Students immersed themselves in the beauty of themed gardens, orchids, and ferns while attending a snake awareness program that dispelled common myths about reptiles. A wildlife quiz stimulated curiosity, and essay writing and poster-making competitions encouraged creative expressions on this year’s theme, with winners to be announced on Tuesday.
Adding to the educational experience, a plant exhibition by ADET officer V. Thanuja and botanist Dr. Veerakishore highlighted the vital role of plants in sustaining ecosystems. L. Ranjith Nayak, Executive Director (Eco-Tourism), underscored the urgency of conservation finance, emphasizing the need for investments in biodiversity to support climate regulation, livelihoods, and ecosystem health. He linked these efforts to the recently adopted ‘Pact for the Future,’ a global commitment to sustainable development, biodiversity protection, and climate action. The pact emphasizes international cooperation, policy reforms, and financial strategies to safeguard natural ecosystems for future generations.
