Speculation surrounding Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y.S. Sharmila’s possible entry into the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka has finally been put to rest. The Congress high command, which announced its candidates for the three Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant in Karnataka, did not include Sharmila in the final list.
The Congress party nominated its national president Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC national spokesperson Pawan Khera and Mansoor Ali Khan, son of former Union Minister Rahman Khan, as its candidates from Karnataka.
Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh, the ruling NDA alliance has completed seat-sharing arrangements for the four Rajya Sabha seats scheduled to fall vacant this month. Under the agreement, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will contest three seats, while one seat has been allotted to the Jana Sena Party. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not been allocated a seat in this round.
The decision was finalised during a key meeting held at Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s camp office in Undavalli. Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan and Andhra Pradesh BJP president P.V.N. Madhav also participated in the discussions. Following the meeting, Chandrababu announced that the allocation was made with the consensus of all alliance partners and said candidate names would be declared shortly.
Meanwhile, Jana Sena has nominated prominent industrialist Lingamaneni Ramesh for its allotted Rajya Sabha seat. Chairman of Lingamaneni Estates and LEPL Group, Ramesh is a well-known businessman who also founded the regional airline Air Costa.
