Hyderabad: A young woman suffering from severe abdominal pain and increasing stomach swelling was successfully treated at Medicover Hospitals after doctors discovered and removed a massive football-sized ovarian tumor measuring more than 20 cm. T. Sandhya 35 years from Bodapatla Village in Sangareddy Dist had been struggling with severe intermittent abdominal pain, heaviness and progressive swelling for nearly two weeks for which she consulted Dr G Bhavya - Senior Obstetrician & Gynecologist at Medicover Hospitals, Chandanagar.
Further investigations revealed a giant ovarian cyst arising from the right ovary. After detailed counseling regarding the risks and possible complications, the patient and her family agreed to proceed with open surgery. The surgery was performed by Dr G Bhavya along with Dr Raghu Rami Reddy S - Surgical Oncologist and the multidisciplinary surgical team. The tumor was carefully removed intact without rupture and immediately sent for frozen section biopsy.
The patient recovered well after surgery and was shifted to the ICU for postoperative monitoring. Speaking about the case, Dr G Bhavya explained that their priority was not only to safely remove the tumor but also to preserve her reproductive organs and future fertility. Doctors further emphasized that women should never ignore persistent abdominal pain, sudden increase in abdominal size and loss of appetite as these symptoms may sometimes indicate serious gynecological conditions that require immediate medical attention.
