BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) asserted that the party would return to power in Telangana in 2028 and promised that a future BRS government would help create nearly 50,000 contractors from SC, ST, BC and minority communities.
Addressing a Maha Dharna organized by the SC, ST, BC and Minority Contractors Association at Indira Park on Saturday, KTR launched a sharp attack on the Congress government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He claimed that people were waiting for the next elections to teach the Congress government a lesson and alleged that farmers were angry over procurement issues relating to paddy and maize. He questioned whether Congress leaders had the courage to visit villages amid growing public dissatisfaction.
KTR accused the Congress of coming to power by making false promises through 13 declarations, six guarantees and hundreds of assurances. He recalled that before the elections, Congress had promised reservations in government contracts for SCs, STs and BCs, but alleged that the government had failed to deliver on those commitments after assuming office.
He particularly criticized GO No. 17, alleging that it deprived local small contractors of opportunities to supply vegetables, chicken, milk and bread to residential educational institutions and instead favored large corporate entities. He declared that the agitation would continue until the GO was withdrawn and contracts were provided to weaker sections.
Alleging favoritism in the awarding of contracts, KTR claimed that major contracts were being given to relatives of influential leaders and demanded that the government release a white paper detailing loans raised, funds allocated and contracts awarded to small contractors. He also questioned whether any meaningful share of the state’s borrowings had benefited SC, ST and BC contractors.
The BRS leader mocked Revanth Reddy as a “renewal Chief Minister” and alleged that his position depended on maintaining the confidence of the Congress high command in Delhi. He further called on people to question senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, over what he described as injustice towards weaker sections in Telangana.
Defending the previous BRS government, KTR said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) had focused on creating wealth and distributing its benefits among the poor. He highlighted the establishment of over 1,000 Gurukul institutions, welfare schemes such as Rythu Bandhu, Kalyana Lakshmi and KCR Kit, 24-hour power supply, the construction of the Kaleshwaram project and the expansion of medical and nursing colleges across the state.
He accused the present government of blaming KCR for state borrowings despite continuing to rely on debt for development activities. KTR said BRS would continue fighting for the rights of weaker sections and, if necessary, take the issue to national platforms, including protests in Delhi.
Expressing confidence about the party’s future, he said the BRS would return to power in 2028 and work towards empowering tens of thousands of youth from disadvantaged communities as contractors.
Congress misled youth with election promises
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing them of misleading Telangana’s unemployed youth with election-time promises and later abandoning them. Addressing a meeting of key party workers in Musheerabad constituency, KTR urged young people across the state to question Rahul Gandhi over what he described as the Congress party’s failure to honour its commitments on employment.
Recalling Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Musheerabad during the election campaign, KTR said the Congress leadership had made a series of promises related to jobs and employment opportunities, including assurances of a job calendar and large-scale recruitment. He alleged that these commitments were used to secure votes from educated unemployed youth but were never fulfilled after the party came to power. According to KTR, despite repeatedly assuring support to students and job seekers, Rahul Gandhi has not returned to address their concerns or review the implementation of those promises.
The BRS leader further claimed that Rahul Gandhi had assured Telangana youth that he would stand by them if the Congress government failed to deliver justice. However, KTR alleged that the assurances turned out to be empty promises and that unemployed youth had been left disappointed. He accused Congress leaders of seeking votes from students and unemployed citizens during elections and then distancing themselves from the very people they had promised to support.
KTR also contended that the Congress government had not created any new employment opportunities since assuming office. He alleged that the administration had merely completed recruitment processes that had already been initiated by the previous BRS government and was now claiming credit for them. He called on Telangana’s youth to hold Rahul Gandhi accountable for what he termed a betrayal of their expectations and aspirations.
Turning to electoral matters, KTR appealed to BRS workers to remain vigilant during the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He warned that party cadres should closely monitor the voter verification and registration process and remain alert to any irregularities. Alleging that both the Congress and BJP could attempt manipulations in voter enrolment, he cautioned workers against the possibility of duplicate and bogus votes being added to the rolls.
As part of the programme, KTR delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation explaining the SIR exercise and later interacted with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by the party. He instructed them to ensure that every genuine voter retained their voting rights and that no eligible voter’s name was removed from the electoral rolls. He also urged them to actively monitor the process and prevent any attempts at electoral malpractice.
The BRS Working President expressed concern that Congress could specifically target BRS supporters, sympathisers and party workers during the revision exercise. Referring to Hyderabad’s electoral history, he noted that although BRS lost the Telangana Assembly elections, the party had recorded a strong performance in the city. Given that support base, he alleged that there could be attempts to delete the names of voters perceived to be backing the BRS and asked party workers to remain cautious.
Highlighting the party’s confidence in Hyderabad, KTR said the city’s residents had consistently stood by the BRS and would continue to do so in future elections. He expressed confidence that whenever elections are held in Hyderabad, the BRS would emerge victorious. According to him, this continued support stems from the extensive development carried out in the city during the BRS government’s ten-year tenure.
Little achieved for Hyderabad
Criticising the Congress government’s performance in Hyderabad, KTR claimed that little had been achieved for the city over the past two-and-a-half years. He said that while the previous BRS administration focused on constructing flyovers, roads and double-bedroom housing projects, the current government was concentrating on demolition drives under the HYDRAA initiative. He alleged that while the previous government built infrastructure and expanded civic facilities, the Congress government was pursuing policies that were causing destruction rather than development.
KTR also announced that the BRS would launch a membership enrolment drive from next month. The programme, he said, would be conducted entirely through a digital platform. To ensure its success, the party will organise booth-wise training programmes for its cadre across the state. Alongside membership registration, workers will also be trained to highlight what the party describes as the Congress government’s failures, excesses and anti-people policies, enabling them to take the campaign directly to the public. Several senior BRS leaders and party functionaries attended the Musheerabad constituency meeting along with local cadres and organisational representatives.
