BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao, on Thursday, launched a sharp attack on the Congress government over its housing promises and challenged it to fulfil the commitment of constructing 20 lakh Indiramma houses before seeking votes from the people.

Referring to remarks made by Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy a day earlier, KTR questioned whether the Congress leadership had the courage and commitment to stand by its promises. He alleged that Congress leaders were making sensational statements only to later avoid accountability.

KTR said the people of Telangana would judge the government based on delivery and not on publicity or dramatic declarations. He challenged the Congress government to publicly commit to implementing every promise made in its election manifesto if it genuinely possessed sincerity and credibility.

Stating that the previous BRS government had transformed the dream of home ownership for lakhs of poor families into reality, KTR said the double bedroom housing scheme introduced by BRS had become a national model. He claimed that nearly one lakh double bedroom houses were constructed in Hyderabad alone with dignity, quality and proper infrastructure.

KTR criticised the Congress government for proposing what he described as “box houses” while questioning its ability to deliver large scale housing projects. He asserted that every double bedroom house built during the BRS regime was superior in quality and scale to the proposed Indiramma houses.

Throwing an open challenge to the Congress government, KTR asked it to construct even better housing projects in Hyderabad instead of making allegations against the previous administration.

He also accused the Congress government of demolishing houses in the name of governance while failing to provide new homes for the poor. KTR demanded that the government release a White Paper detailing the number of houses constructed and demolished in Hyderabad during the last two and a half years.

KTR further alleged that the Congress leadership was indulging in corruption, misuse of the revenue system and diversion politics to escape accountability over unfulfilled guarantees and election promises.

He asserted that the BRS would continue to question the Congress government over what he termed the betrayal of the six guarantees and thirteen declarations promised to the people of Telangana.
