Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy declared on Tuesday that the Congress Party is poised for a clean sweep in all the Assembly seats it is contesting as part of the DMK-led alliance, with significantly improved victory margins compared to previous elections.
Campaigning for the party nominees as senior AICC observer for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he appealed to the voters to be wary of the BJP's designs to gain ground in Tamil Nadu. Addressing a series of whistle stop meetings as part of his campaign in Ooty assembly constituency, he exuded high optimism stating that the Congress is poised for a clean sweep in all 28 Assembly seats it is contesting as part of the DMK-led alliance.
“Our internal surveys clearly indicate a strong advantage for the Congress in every seat we are contesting. This advantage is even more pronounced in Ooty, where we are confident of winning with a high majority,” Uttam Kumar Reddy asserted.
Refereeing to growing popularity of Rahul Gandhi, he said 'Rahul ji' is the most loved leader in Tamil Nadu today”, and added that he is touring the state in his capacity as senior AICC observer at as desired by the AICC leadership.
He praised the seamless coordination among senior leaders, including AICC in-charge for Tamil Nadu Girish Chodankar (Girish ji), Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K. Selvaperunthagai, and other party functionaries. “All of us — Girish ji, the PCC President, and other leaders — are working in perfect coordination,” he said.
He expressed deep admiration for Tamil people, language, culture, and traditions. “Tamil language, Tamil culture, and Tamil traditions are very close to our hearts. I have been touring all constituencies to coordinate efforts and motivate our cadres,” he remarked.
Strong commitment to Ooty’s development
Focusing on Ooty, the picturesque hill station and major tourism hub in the Nilgiris — Uttam Kumar Reddy made specific promises on behalf of the Congress stating that the new government would resolve key infrastructure issues and ease traffic problems in Ooty.
It would help improve public amenities and facilities for tourists and locals. The Congress leadership would extend full support to tea growers by addressing their long-standing problems.
He said that his party (which fielded B Ramachandran from Ooty in the ensuing elections), will work dedicatedly to transform the region into a greater tourism destination while protecting and promoting the interests of tea growers and the local community.”
