The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls commenced across Telangana on Thursday, with nearly 36,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) beginning a massive house-to-house enumeration exercise to update and verify voter records. The exercise, being conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission of India, will continue until July 24.

Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy said the revision process is aimed at ensuring an accurate and error-free electoral roll ahead of future elections. He clarified that the Election Commission has no intention of deleting genuine voters arbitrarily and urged electors not to be concerned. The focus, he said, is on identifying and correcting discrepancies while ensuring that every eligible voter remains on the rolls.

More than 3,500 supervisors and over 1,000 senior officials have been deployed across the state to monitor the exercise. Telangana currently has over 3.38 crore voters, of whom around 2.38 crore had already been mapped before the launch of the enumeration drive. Officials said nearly 90 lakh elector records were identified with anomalies and would be verified during the revision process.

During their visits, BLOs will distribute Enumeration Forms, assist voters in filling them out and verify electoral details. In addition, nearly 49,000 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) have been trained to support the exercise. The draft electoral roll will be published on July 31, followed by a claims and objections period until August 30. After verification and hearings, the final electoral roll will be published on October 1.

4,062 BLOs deployed across GHMC

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise commenced across Hyderabad district on Thursday, with 4,062 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) deployed across all 15 Assembly constituencies to undertake door-to-door voter verification and distribution of Enumeration Forms.

As part of the month-long exercise, BLOs began visiting households to distribute pre-filled forms, assist electors in updating their details and verify voter information. The exercise will continue until July 24 and covers all polling station areas in the district. Officials said BLOs will make repeat visits to locked houses to ensure complete coverage and prevent any eligible voter from being left out of the electoral rolls.

Hyderabad district has over 47 lakh registered electors, and special help desks have been established at Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) offices to assist voters.

Hyderabad District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan inspected the ongoing enumeration process at Gyani Zail Singh Nagar in Film Nagar under the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency.
