Telangana to setup 53 new ACTs at Rs 2,000 crore: Vivek Venkatswamy

Minister for Labour, Employment and Mines Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy has announced that the government has decided to establish 53 new ATCs across the Telangana state at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore, significantly expanding access to advanced technical education and skill training.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of a new Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) at Rangareddygudem in Rajapur mandal of Mahabubnagar district on Thursday.

The Minister stated that the Telangana government is according top priority to skill development and employment generation. He said the government has upgraded ITIs that were on the verge of closure into 65 Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) with an investment of approximately Rs 2,200 crore. He said the newly established ATCs are witnessing an impressive 90 percent admission rate, reflecting the growing demand for skill-based education.

Vivek Venkatswamy attributed this success to the introduction of new and industry-relevant courses and emphasized that students must acquire technical skills alongside academic qualifications to secure quality employment opportunities.

The Minister said the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited (TOMCOM) programme has received an overwhelming response from youth across the State. He noted that the government has allocated Rs 90 crore in the budget to provide internationally recognised skill training and enhance overseas employment opportunities. The Minister said Telangana has emerged as a national role model in transforming conventional ITIs into Advanced Technology Centres. He said the Union government has appreciated the State’s innovative approach to skill development.

He added that a special committee comprising representatives from various states has also been constituted to study Telangana’s model, and he is leading the committee. Highlighting the demands of a competitive global economy, the Minister said that technical skills, combined with academic qualifications, are essential for enhancing employability and securing high-quality jobs. Jadcherla MLA Anirudh Reddy  and others were also present.
