Jayashankar Bhupalpally District Collector Rahul Sharma on Thursday called for paying special focus on the health of the pilgrims from the district who were going to Chardham pilgrimage. he four sacred sites—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—are located at elevations exceeding 2,700 metres above sea level, where extreme cold, low oxygen levels, and reduced air pressure can significantly affect visitors’ health.

District Collector and senior officials emphasized that all pilgrims must ensure they are physically and medically fit before embarking on the journey. Particular caution was advised for senior citizens above 55 years of age and individuals suffering from pre-existing medical conditions such as heart ailments, asthma, hypertension, and diabetes. Authorities strongly recommend that these pilgrims undergo thorough medical check-ups and seek clearance from their doctors before starting the yatra.

These include warm clothing, rain protection gear, necessary medicines, a pulse oximeter, and a thermometer. Pilgrims are also advised to drink at least two litres of water daily, consume nutritious food, and perform breathing exercises to help their bodies adapt to the low-oxygen environment. Special precautions were recommended for pregnant women, young children, and overweight individuals, who are at higher risk in high-altitude areas.
