Silent revolution sweeping country

20-10-2026 12:00:00 AM

metro india news  I hyderabad : A “silent revolution” is sweeping the country under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, with people increasingly looking for an alternative to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Telangana Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Monday.

Addressing the annual Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day and Rajiv Sadbhavana Award function at the historic Charminar, Uttam, who presided over the event, said growing public support for Rahul Gandhi and the Congress reflected a wider desire for political change. He called upon Congress workers to stand firmly behind Rahul Gandhi in defeating the BJP and strengthening secularism, democracy and national unity.

The programme, organised annually since 1990, commemorates former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s message of communal harmony and national integration. It also recalls his contributions to technological advancement, democratic decentralisation, youth empowerment and peace-building.

Uttam said Rahul Gandhi had provided effective leadership to the Congress through both challenging and favourable political circumstances. Increasing public participation in Congress programmes across the country, he said, indicated that a silent political transformation was gathering momentum.

Emphasising the importance of party organisation, the Minister said the Congress government must recognise grassroots workers who had endured years of hardship under the previous BRS regime. Their perseverance, sacrifices and sustained efforts had played a crucial role in the Congress returning to power in Telangana, and their contributions should not be forgotten.

He urged ministers, MPs, MLCs and MLAs to give greater priority to party programmes and maintain close coordination between the government and the organisation. Greater participation by elected representatives, he said, would help recognise grassroots workers and strengthen the party.

Recalling Rajiv Gandhi’s association with Hyderabad through the Sadbhavana Yatra, Uttam congratulated former PCC president V. Hanumantha Rao and the Rajiv Sadbhavana Award Committee for sustaining the tradition for more than three decades. He said he had regularly attended the event irrespective of the position he held.

Rajiv Gandhi’s vision of modern India hailed

AICC secretary in charge of Telangana Sachin M. Sawant paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions to national integration, communal harmony, information technology, Panchayati Raj and youth empowerment.

Sawant said Rajiv Gandhi envisioned a modern, self-reliant India founded on unity, mutual respect and national interest. He recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s early recognition of information technology’s potential, efforts to restore peace in Punjab, Assam and Mizoram, strengthening of Panchayati Raj institutions, promotion of women’s participation in local governance and reduction of the voting age from 21 to 18 years.

Expressing concern over growing divisions along caste and religious lines, Sawant said communal polarisation weakened the country. He urged Congress workers to support Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to counter hatred and promote social harmony.

Dr. C. Mallikarjuna, Founder, Managing Director and Chief Consultant Urologist of the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology, Hyderabad, was honoured for his service to society. The organisers were congratulated for sustaining the annual tradition and recognising individuals committed to public service.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud, former PCC president V. Hanumantha Rao, former minister Geeta Reddy, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, senior leaders Anjan Kumar Yadav and Feroz Khan, along with other Congress leaders, functionaries and award committee members, attended the programme.

Speakers urged Congress workers to uphold Rajiv Gandhi’s legacy of sacrifice, secularism, national integration and communal harmony, describing these ideals as the most meaningful tribute to the former Prime Minister.
