Warns cadre over SIR negligence

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed party leaders and cadres to treat the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as a top priority, warning that negligence in the process could prove costly in future elections.

Addressing a workshop on the voter list revision process at the TDP headquarters in Mangalagiri, attended by MLAs, MPs, MLCs, constituency in-charges and party observers, Chandrababu stressed that voter rolls form the foundation of every electoral strategy.

“Special Intensive Revision is conducted only once in two to three decades. Every party worker must ensure that eligible voters are enrolled and existing votes are protected. The process must be monitored closely, and I will personally review it every day,” he said. He noted that the return of Andhra Pradesh voters from various parts of the country to cast their votes had contributed significantly to the NDA coalition’s victory in 164 Assembly constituencies in 2024.

Launching a sharp attack on the opposition YSR Congress Party, Chandrababu reiterated his recent Goddali Party remarks and urged party workers to remain alert. “Even a small snake must be struck with a big stick; otherwise it can still inject poison. We must remain vigilant against the politics of conspiracy and misinformation,” he said.

The Chief Minister accused the opposition of spreading false propaganda regarding the Mega DSC teacher recruitment process and alleged that recent controversies, including the vandalism of a YSR statue in Nandyal, were being exploited for political purposes. He also referred to the murder of former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, describing it as a case study in political intrigue and cautioning party leaders against underestimating such tactics.

Chandrababu also underscored the importance of maintaining coordination with alliance partners Jana Sena and the BJP. He announced that a coordination committee involving all three parties would be formed to oversee the SIR process and strengthen grassroots cooperation.

Looking ahead, he unveiled a 45-day door-to-door public outreach campaign from July 15 to the end of August to publicise the coalition government’s welfare and development initiatives. He urged leaders and workers to actively engage with people and communicate the government’s achievements, including progress on Polavaram, investments, job creation and welfare programmes.

Reaffirming his commitment to cadre welfare, Chandrababu said the party would continue supporting workers through insurance, education and skill-development initiatives, describing grassroots activists as the true strength of the TDP.
