Prices of key pulses showed a mixed trend across major spot markets on Tuesday, with tur easing in some centres due to weak demand, while urad remained largely unchanged amid a lack of fresh market triggers.
Chana prices also witnessed selective declines as buying activity stayed subdued. In Akola, Maharashtra, chana prices remained steady at ₹6,050-6,100 per 100 kg. Traders said both demand and supply were low, keeping prices stable. Seasonal factors have affected consumption, as high temperatures have reduced market participation. However, traders expect demand for chana dal and besan to improve once the monsoon advances, which could provide support to prices.
Arrivals of chana have also reduced as farmers are busy preparing fields for the upcoming kharif sowing season. Market participants said arrivals had increased temporarily in recent weeks when stronger prices encouraged stock liquidation.
With arrivals expected to stay limited and demand likely to improve during the monsoon season, prices may find support in the coming weeks. In Delhi, chana prices declined by ₹25 per 100 kg to ₹5,940-5,975 due to sluggish demand.Tur prices displayed a mixed trend. In Akola, prices were steady at ₹7,900-7,925 per 100 kg after witnessing a prolonged decline. Traders said concerns about crop damage caused by excess rainfall last year have eased as market arrivals continue at a steady pace.
The stable arrival pattern indicates adequate stock availability with farmers. While demand remains weak, a sharp decline in prices appears unlikely because growers are expected to resist sales below the minimum support price of ₹8,000 per 100 kg.
