The Crime Branch–Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID) has launched an investigation into alleged irregularities in granite quarry operations across Telangana. As part of the probe, CBCID teams visited the Mines Assistant Director’s office in Karimnagar and collected records related to quarrying activities.

The investigation follows the state government’s decision to examine mining-related violations from 2014 onwards. Authorities are expected to scrutinize quarry lease transfers, alleged evasion of seigniorage charges, illegal mining outside permitted areas, and whether excavation was carried out within approved limits.

Officials will also verify the quantity of granite transported from quarries over the past decade and compare transportation records with royalty and seigniorage payments. Details from railway authorities, ports used for exports, freight charges, and export volumes are also likely to be examined.

The probe will cover districts including Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Khammam, Mahabubabad, and Nagarkurnool. CBCID teams are also expected to conduct field inspections of quarries and review financial transactions to assess any loss caused to the state exchequer.
