The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly is set to convene from February 24, with the state budget scheduled to be presented during these sessions. On the first day, Governor S. Abdul Nazeer will address both houses of the legislature, marking the formal commencement of proceedings. The duration of the session will be determined following the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting.
In a significant political development, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and other MLAs are expected to attend the Assembly sessions. This comes in the wake of recent remarks by Assembly Speaker Ayyanapatrudu and Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishnam Raju, who highlighted the potential risk of disqualification for legislators who fail to attend for 60 consecutive working days.
Speaking at a recent press meet, Speaker Ayyanapatrudu underscored the legal implications of continued absenteeism. “Any legislator who skips Assembly sessions for 60 working days faces the risk of disqualification,” he stated. These remarks have fueled speculation that Jagan and his party MLAs might attend at least one day of the session to avoid the looming threat of disqualification.
With the political climate intensifying in Andhra Pradesh, the upcoming Assembly session is expected to be closely watched, not just for the budget presentation but also for the political maneuvers that may unfold.
