A tribute was paid on Friday in Hyderabad to commemorate the birth anniversary of Doddi Komaraiah and the death anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji at the Media Centre in Downtown Mall. Retired Director General of Police (DGP) and national coordinator of the All India Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation (AIBSF), Dr. J. Purnachandra Rao, was the chief participant. He recalled the services rendered by these personalities and highlighted their contributions to social justice and resistance against oppression.

In his address, Dr. Purnachandra Rao described Doddi Komuraiah as a courageous figure who challenged the powerful Jagirdar Ramachandra Reddy. Doddi Komuraiah, Dr.Rao recalled, was born into a poor Kuruma (shepherd) family in Kadavendi village. On July 4, 1946, during a protest in Kadavendi village, henchmen of the deshmukh opened fire. Komuraiah was killed on the spot, becoming the first martyr of the armed phase of the Telangana Peasant Struggle.

Regarding Chatrapati Shivaji, Dr. Rao emphasized that he was not merely a religious leader but a Bahujan emperor who prioritized the welfare of the people and added that Shivaji’s administration focused on justice, transparency in governance and protection of the people—principles that remain ideals even today. Dr. Purnachandra Rao called upon Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and minority communities to critically analyze history and advance with awareness in their quest for rights. He underscored the importance of drawing inspiration from these historical struggles to establish equality, justice and dignity in society.
