Telangana eyes textile capital tag

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is aiming to position Telangana as a future textile powerhouse with a vision to emerge as the Textile Capital of South Asia by 2047.

He inaugurated the 13th Asian Textile Conference ATEXCON 2026 in Hyderabad on Friday. Addressing over 1,200 delegates from across India and abroad, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s strong industrial ecosystem, offering world class infrastructure, abundant resources, investor friendly policies, and skilled human capital. He emphasized that Telangana’s growth roadmap aligns with its broader ambition of becoming a one trillion dollar economy by 2034 and three trillion dollars by 2047.

Underscoring the state’s rich textile heritage, he referred to iconic weaves such as Pochampally Ikat, Gadwal sarees, Warangal durries, and Narayanpet fabrics, calling textiles a lifeline for local weaving communities. He noted Telangana’s status as one of India’s largest cotton producers with globally recognized quality.

The Chief Minister highlighted flagship initiatives like the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park and announced plans to develop sustainable, green textile hubs while empowering youth and women through skill development.

Inviting global investors, he said Telangana offers end to end opportunities across the textile value chain, from raw cotton to global fashion markets. He also pointed to Hyderabad’s emergence as a global production hub, linking textiles with the expanding film and fashion industries.

Organized jointly with the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, ATEXCON 2026 focuses on future ready themes including fibers, manufacturing innovation, and global trade.

Sridhar Babu unveils ‘New Swadeshi’ Vision

IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, addressing ATEXCON 2026, underscored Telangana’s commitment to transforming the textile sector into a driver of inclusive growth and global innovation. Drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s Swadeshi spirit, he emphasized blending tradition with technology to create a “New Swadeshi” for the modern era. The Minister stated that textiles represent social justice, with efforts focused on empowering weavers as entrepreneurs. He highlighted the integration of advanced technologies like AI, IoT, and blockchain to ensure quality and transparency. Telangana aims to connect its craftsmanship to global fashion hubs such as Milan and New York.
