Cyber Crime Police Station, Cyberabad, has arrested Sankar Ganesh Adaikkalam and Elanchezhiyan Sathiyavel, busting a transnational cybercrime involving a "Digital Arrest" fraud. The investigation began in September 2024, following a complaint from an 82-year-old retired engineer who lost Rs 1.38 crores.

The victim received a call from a fraudster posing as an SBI representative and was falsely informed of an anti-money laundering case against him. He was then connected to a fake Mumbai Cyber Crime officer via WhatsApp, who manipulated him into providing his Aadhaar details and falsely implicated him. Under pressure, the victim transferred Rs 1.38 crores to several bank accounts linked to the fraudsters.

On 18th February 2025, the Cyber Crime Police arrested Sankar Ganesh in Tiruchirapalli and Elanchezhiyan in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu. Key seizures included two mobile phones. Further investigations are ongoing to apprehend the absconding accused, Jesmin Mondal, Sachin, Muthukumar, and Saleem.
