MP Krishnababu, Special Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Department, stated that uncontrolled high blood pressure (hypertension) can lead to long-term complications, including stroke, which can turn life upside down.
He was speaking at the awareness campaign ‘Check BP – Stop Stroke,’ jointly organized by the Indian Stroke Association (ISA), Indian Red Cross Society, and Rotary Club at the premises of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on Friday.
MP Krishnababu mentioned that more than 1.8 million people suffer from strokes each year. By educating people about dangerous risk factors like high blood pressure and encouraging control over them, not only brain strokes but also diseases like peripheral vascular disease (PVD), heart attacks, and kidney failure can be prevented in advance. ISA President Dr. Vijaya, isaid that that 25% of these patients are below the age of 40. Through awareness and proper control, 80% of strokes can be prevented, she emphasized.
ISA Secretary Dr. Arvind Sharma announced that this campaign would be extended across all districts of Andhra Pradesh and throughout the country.
