metro india news I hyderabad : BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has opposed the Telangana government’s reported proposal to establish an open-cast coal mine near the historic Ramappa temple, alleging that the project could pose a threat to the state’s heritage structures. In a post on X on Monday, KTR criticized the proposal to undertake open-cast coal mining in the vicinity of the Ramappa temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important example of Telangana’s architectural heritage.
He expressed concern that extensive excavation and blasting associated with coal mining could potentially affect both the Ramappa temple and the nearby Ramappa Lake. KTR said the government should focus on protecting historical and heritage structures rather than promoting projects that could pose risks to them in the name of development. He alleged that the Revanth Reddy-led government was seeking to exploit the state’s natural resources and was also putting its heritage monuments at risk.
The BRS leader said his party would not accept any development activity that could damage Telangana’s historical heritage. KTR demanded that the government immediately withdraw the proposed open-cast coal mining project if it poses a threat to the Ramappa Temple and its surrounding heritage environment. He further warned that the BRS would launch a large-scale agitation against the proposal if the government proceeded with the project. The BRS working president also said his party would continue to fight for the protection and preservation of Telangana’s historical and cultural heritage.
