Marking the 100 years of Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda, a grand centenary marathon was organized at the HMDA Grounds near IMAX on Sunday. Organized under the theme “Run for Faith, Run for Sewa”, the marathon brought together people cutting across caste, creed and age groups, reflecting the spirit of community, inclusiveness and service associated with the historic Sikh institution. The marathon was flagged off by prominent Sikh personalities at the HMDA Grounds. Participants in the 3K run proceeded towards People’s Plaza, while those taking part in the 5K run continued towards Jal Vihar.
The organizers said the marathon was conceived not merely as a sporting event but as an inclusive community celebration marking a significant milestone in the history of the Gurudwara. Founded in 1926, Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda has witnessed the transformation of Hyderabad over the past century. The centenary more than a hundred years of a place of worship. It celebrates a century of the Sikh community’s presence, contribution and service in Hyderabad and Telangana.
Winners in various categories were honored with medals and gifts at the concluding prize distribution ceremony. T-shirts and bronze medals were provided to all participants, while digital certificates were presented to those who took part in the walking segment. S. Rajender Singh, Chairman of the Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda Prabhandak Committee said the marathon was organized as part of the year-long celebrations commemorating the 100th anniversary of the historic Gurudwara.
S. Trilok Singh, President of the committee, said the centenary was a significant milestone for Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda and that the celebrations were intended to honor its rich legacy while bringing people together in the spirit of service, faith and togetherness. The marathon marks the beginning of a series of religious, cultural and community programs planned as part of the centenary year celebrations. The September program will include Akhand Path Sahib, the continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib; Kirtan Darbar, featuring devotional musical programs; and Amrit Sanchar, the Sikh initiation ceremony.
