Simplify organ donation procedures: Rajanarsimha

Minister for Medical and Health Damodar  Rajanarsimha has instructed the officials to simplify the procedures to encourage organ donations in Telangana. He said that an action plan should be formulated to make Telangana a model for other states in the country in organ transplant treatment. The Minister held a high-level review meeting with private hospital managements on the formulation of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA) policy and the implementation of the Clinical Establishment Act at his office in the Secretariat on Tuesday.

During this review, discussions were held with the managements of private hospitals on organ transplant treatments. The Health department officials discussed with the private hospital managements on the formulation of a comprehensive policy required for the effective implementation of the Organ Donations Act in Telangana state.

The Minister expressed his anger over the prices of organ transplant treatments in private hospitals. The Minister advised the private managements to control the prices so that even the common man can afford the cost of organ transplant treatments.

Rajanarsimha also inquired about the problems faced by private hospitals and said that the medical and health department will provide the necessary support for organ transplant treatments.

He said 4 hospitals in Telangana have been given permission for hand transplant treatment. The Minister further discussed the implementation of the Clinical Establishment Act in the state with the managements of private hospitals.

On the occasion, Rajanarsimha instructed the officials to take steps to ensure that the Clinical Establishment Act is effectively implemented in the state. The Minister suggested that the medical expenses in private hospitals should not be a burden for the common man. He said action has been taken to control the tariff for treatment in all private hospitals in the state.
