South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced additional security measures to enhance passenger safety, particularly in city and suburban train sections. SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain conducted a review meeting with officials on Tuesday and directed them to strengthen security measures without compromise.
As part of these measures, SCR has decided to deploy more female Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, especially in ladies’ compartments and MMTS trains. Regular patrolling by RPF and GRP personnel will be intensified, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours. Emergency contact numbers will be prominently displayed in all ladies’ coaches and railway stations to assist passengers in case of distress.
To raise awareness, SCR will launch campaigns through public announcements, posters at railway stations, and digital platforms. These initiatives aim to educate passengers about safety precautions, helpline numbers, and how to report suspicious activities. Additionally, a joint task force comprising RPF and GRP personnel will be formed to ensure a swift response to security incidents, especially crimes against women.
The Meri Saheli teams have been instructed to closely monitor MMTS trains and analyze security vulnerabilities, focusing on high-risk routes. Station officers will conduct mandatory checks and escort vulnerable trains and sections. To enhance security, undercover officers will be deployed on random trains based on complaints and crime history. Special drives will also be conducted to remove intoxicated passengers and prevent unauthorized male entry into ladies' coaches. SCR will ensure that all trains and stations are well-lit to deter criminal activities.
