Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday called for greater emphasis on research, technological advancement and innovation in the seed sector, with farmers’ welfare at the centre of agricultural development.

Addressing a commemorative programme honouring late Mandava Venkatramaiah, founder of Nuziveedu Seeds Limited, at Kandlakoya in Medchal–Malkajgiri district, the Governor said that innovations in agriculture must translate into tangible benefits for farmers, including higher productivity and improved livelihoods.

The Governor paid floral tributes to Venkatramaiah’s portrait and planted a sapling in his memory.

Recalling the founder’s contribution to the seed industry, Shiv Pratap Shukla said Venkatramaiah had demonstrated vision and commitment by recognising farmers’ needs and advancing agricultural development through an emphasis on quality, reliability and innovation. His life exemplified how professional success could acquire greater significance when directed towards social good and the betterment of people’s lives, he said.

Describing farmers as the backbone of the country’s economy, the Governor said their hard work and dedication were fundamental to India’s food security. He stressed the need to strengthen scientific research, promote modern agricultural technologies and develop quality seeds to enhance farm productivity and improve farmers’ economic conditions.
