The issue of the Andhra Pradesh–Telangana bifurcation has resurfaced, with Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar writing to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, expressing concern over recent political statements that could strain relations between the two states.
In his letter, the minister warned that comments made by certain leaders regarding the bifurcation were inappropriate and risked reigniting tensions among people of both states. He specifically referred to statements made by leaders from the TDP, BJP, and Jana Sena, stating that such remarks could create unnecessary divisions and fuel public discord.
Ponnam Prabhakar strongly objected to comments made by BJP MP Tejasvi Surya in the Lok Sabha on the issue of state bifurcation. He urged Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to intervene and ensure that those remarks are expunged from the parliamentary records. He also requested the AP Chief Minister to write to the Lok Sabha Speaker in this regard.
Highlighting Naidu’s role as a key ally in the NDA at the Centre, the Telangana minister called on him to counsel coalition partners and ensure that leaders adopt a responsible approach while addressing sensitive issues like state bifurcation. He stressed that political rhetoric should not come at the cost of harmony between the two Telugu-speaking states.
The minister noted that more than a decade has passed since the bifurcation, and revisiting the issue in a provocative manner serves no constructive purpose. “There is no benefit in reopening old wounds. Both states must move forward, focusing on cooperation and development,” he stated in the letter.
Ponnam Prabhakar expressed hope that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu would take his concerns seriously and respond positively to maintain cordial relations between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
