Over 26 lakh households across India have benefited under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), with Rs 14,771.82 crore disbursed as central financial assistance, Parliament was informed on Tuesday.

Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik said that since the launch of the scheme in February 2024, a total of 20,85,514 rooftop solar (RTS) systems have been installed, benefiting 26,14,446 households.

The top five beneficiary states are Gujarat (7,41,819 households), Maharashtra (6,34,782), Uttar Pradesh (3,29,847), Kerala (1,82,071), and Rajasthan (1,22,027), the minister informed.

According to Naik, the scheme has the potential to generate 1,000 billion units of renewable electricity if RTS is installed in 1 crore households. This could help reduce 720 million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions over the 25-year lifetime of the systems.
