No LPG shortage in AP: Nadendla Manohar

The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday sought to allay public concerns over a possible cooking gas shortage, asserting that there is no disruption in domestic LPG supply across the state. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar urged citizens not to fall prey to misinformation and panic-driven booking trends, warning of strict action against black marketing and diversion of domestic gas.

Addressing a press conference at the Civil Supplies Bhavan in Kanuru, the minister said LPG supply in the state remains stable, with adequate stocks maintained by major oil marketing companies including Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL). He emphasised that the government is closely monitoring supply patterns and taking proactive steps to prevent any artificial shortages.

Manohar noted that misleading narratives on social media had triggered unnecessary panic among consumers, leading to a surge in bookings over the past week. “People, fearing shortages, began placing multiple bookings, which created temporary pressure on distribution,” he said, adding that bookings have since normalised, from 5.04 lakh earlier to 2.96 lakh currently.

Reiterating that domestic consumers are being prioritised, the minister assured uninterrupted supply for household needs. He also clarified that commercial LPG supply remains stable, with priority being given to essential sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, hostels, temples, and Anna canteens.

In view of global uncertainties, particularly ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting energy supply chains, the state government is in constant coordination with the Centre and exploring contingency measures.
