Telangana is emerging as a global leader in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by promoting responsible technology development that balances innovation with environmental protection and social welfare, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said on Tuesday.

Addressing the ‘Green Growth Economic Summit – The Hyderabad Collective’ held at HICC in Hyderabad, Bhatti Vikramarka said the state was not only focusing on attracting investments but also setting new benchmarks for sustainable and people-centric AI development.

The two-day summit, organised by The Meridian Collective, was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka along with IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu. Delegates from several countries participated in the event.

Speaking at the summit, the Deputy Chief Minister said AI was not limited to cloud computing and servers but involved major resources such as electricity, water, land and human talent. “We are not against AI, but we want to show the world what responsible AI should look like,” he said.

He said Telangana was working towards making Hyderabad a hub for sustainable AI by encouraging the use of renewable energy, efficient resource management and environmentally responsible practices. AI growth, he said, should not come at the cost of natural resources. Bhatti Vikramarka stressed that investments should benefit both the environment and local communities.

Industries setting up operations in the state should focus on developing local skills, using clean energy and adopting recycled water practices, he said.

He highlighted that Telangana was promoting the concept of “People’s Credit” at a time when global discussions were focused on carbon credits. AI investments, he said, should not remain restricted to data centres but should create employment opportunities and improve skills among rural youth.

The Deputy Chief Minister said technology should never compete with the water needs of farmers and ordinary citizens. The state would encourage AI systems that follow responsible water consumption practices and ensure that development benefits all sections of society.

He added that AI should become accessible to common people by removing language barriers and creating opportunities for youth from rural areas, including districts such as Mahabubabad and Adilabad.

Referring to India’s scientific and technological growth journey from the era of Jawaharlal Nehru to Manmohan Singh, Bhatti Vikramarka said Telangana was taking the vision forward under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

“Hyderabad is not just becoming a centre for data centres, but a model for how data-driven industries should be built with responsibility and human values,” he said.

He said Telangana’s transparent governance, investor-friendly environment and commitment to inclusive growth were providing confidence to global companies. The state, he added, was moving towards a future where AI would be combined with human wisdom and social responsibility.
