BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao has urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to immediately establish a new railway division with its headquarters at Kazipet in Telangana.

In a letter, KTR said recent restructuring in South Central Railway and the operationalisation of South Coast Railway have placed excessive pressure on the Secunderabad Division. He noted that the division currently covers 2,755 track kilometres, which is expected to increase to about 3,150 km with the addition of new sections like Wadi–Raichur and Vishnupuram–Bibinagar. This, he said, is far beyond the optimal administrative range followed in Indian Railways.

By comparison, divisions such as Vijayawada and Guntakal manage around 2,200 km, while Guntur division operates under 900 km, making Secunderabad an outlier in terms of size and workload.

KTR argued that a Kazipet division is both necessary and practical. The proposed division would include key routes such as Kazipet–Balharshah, Peddapalli–Nizamabad, Kazipet–Yerrupalem, Dornakal–Manuguru, Motumari–Vishnupuram, and Kazipet–Wangapalli. Together, these form a network of about 1,500–2,000 track kilometres, aligning with standard divisional norms.

He also sought a review of certain redistribution plans, including the proposed transfer of the Peddapalli–Nizamabad section to Hyderabad division, suggesting it be included in the Kazipet division instead. Similarly, he called for reconsideration of shifting the Latur Road–Parli Vaijnath section to Nanded division.

Highlighting Kazipet’s strategic importance, KTR said it lies at the junction of major rail routes and has seen major infrastructure upgrades, including triple lines and a sanctioned quadruple line to Secunderabad. He added that new facilities like a railway manufacturing unit, ROH shed, and locomotive maintenance centre further strengthen its case.

KTR stressed that the proposed division would improve management of high-density freight routes and enhance overall efficiency.
