Indian arrested in Germany for killing girlfriend in US

Tucson: An Indian national accused of killing his girlfriend in Arizona has been arrested in Germany after allegedly fleeing the US. Varun Batchigari, 20, faces murder and kidnapping charges. University of Arizona student Julissa Rubi Salazar, 19. She was found dead at her Tucson apartment on Thursday.

Police said Batchigari, Salazar’s boyfriend, left Tucson the same day, flying via Houston to Germany. Investigators believe he intended to travel to India. US authorities coordinated with German and international agencies to detain him. Batchigari is expected to be extradited to Arizona to face charges. The circumstances surrounding Salazar’s death remain under probe.
