The Managing Director of HMWSSB, Ashok Reddy, conducted a surprise inspection of the emergency repair works on a damaged 1200 mm diameter PSC gravity main pipeline at Bulkapur on Monday morning.
The pipeline, which carries water from Singapur to Khanapur, was found to have burst around 5 am near Bulkapur village. After receiving the information, officials immediately stopped water supply from Singapur and Khanapur to prevent further water wastage.
The repair works were taken up on an emergency basis and restoration activities began at around 7 a.m. During the inspection, the MD reviewed the progress of the works and interacted with officials present at the site.
Ashok Reddy asked officials about the latest status of the repairs and directed the Operations and Maintenance and Transmission teams to coordinate effectively and complete the work on a war footing.
He also instructed officials to ensure that residents in areas affected by the disruption do not face inconvenience. Water should be supplied through tankers wherever required until normal supply is restored, he said.
According to officials, the repair works are currently in progress and are likely to be completed by around 10 p.m. on Monday. Once the works are completed, water supply will be restored in phases.
The areas affected by the disruption include Gandipet, Kokapet, Narsingi, Manchirevula, Puppalaguda, Khanapur, Manikonda and parts of the Shaikpet Reservoir command area. Some areas under the Bojagutta Reservoir command area are also facing interruption in water supply.
