Paying tribute to the supreme sacrifices of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, Hyderabad City Police organised mega blood donation camps at 38 centres across the city on Thursday.
The initiative aims to support emergency medical treatment for road accident victims, children suffering from thalassemia and cancer patients. With the support of around 30 blood banks, the police have set a target of collecting nearly 5,700 units of blood through the campaign.
As part of the initiative, DGP CV Anand, IPS, inaugurated a blood donation camp at the CAR Headquarters in Petlaburj. Police officers, personnel and a large number of citizens participated in the programme and donated blood voluntarily.
Addressing the gathering, DGP CV Anand said service activities were being organised across the State from October 21 to 31 in memory of police martyrs. He lauded police personnel for their commitment to maintaining law and order, often sacrificing festivals and holidays to protect society. He said that organising blood donation on such a large scale and supplying the collected blood to government hospitals was commendable, as blood donation was equivalent to saving lives. The blood collected would be particularly beneficial to thalassemia patients and people injured in road accidents. The DGP also urged private hospitals to act responsibly and help strengthen public confidence in blood and organ donation.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, IPS, said the camps were organised on a large scale across the Commissionerate to pay a meaningful tribute to the sacrifices of police martyrs.
He thanked representatives of Osmania, Gandhi, NIMS, King Koti, Niloufer and MNJ Cancer Hospitals, Chiranjeevi Blood Bank, and voluntary organisations such as the Red Cross, Thalassemia Foundation, Rotary and Lions Club for supporting the initiative. He also expressed gratitude to all blood donors and said similar service activities would continue in the future.
