Cartoons is the only art form that can change mood of a person just by a glance. Few well-articulated strokes can bring out an emotion which hundreds of words when put together can’t. Cartoons bring about two changes simultaneously in the beholder’s eyes; they put smile on the face and at the same time put the essence in the mind. Doing both together is not an easy job that said being a cartoonist is not an easy job.
A common man being a cartoonist is ‘inspirational’ but a bureaucrat being a cartoonist is ‘sensational’. In their extremely busy life and under high stress to have that zeal to pursue your hobby and that too under the umbrella of highly guarded rules still to make cartoons of this grade is highly commendable and deeply inspiring.
To recreate this magic every day for 40 years is a phenomenon in its own way. B. P. Acharya, I.A.S, Special Chief Secretary (Retd) has done this meticulously and carved a niche for himself. Obtuse Angle as the name itself suggests that everything what we look at can be looked from a more humorous and wider perspective capturing the essence without losing the fragrance. Each cartoon in the entire book works on similar formula giving us laughs and life’s lessons making us asking for more.
Being a bureaucrat Mr. B. P. Acharya has seen everything from two angle’s, the common man’s angle (outside angle) and the bureaucrat’s angle (inside angle) making the cartoon more obtuse, more humorous and more captivating.
As a Special Chief Secretary of the then united AP and the present Telangana government, Mr. B. P. Acharya played pivotal role in developing industrial hubs such as Genome Valley, Financial District, Mind Space in Hyderabad; Sri City in Rayalaseema and Brandix in North Andhra creating employment directly and indirectly to over 4 lakh people. When such a huge experience collaborates with the inside passion books like “OBTUSE ANGLE” are produced.
Lastly at the end of the book is a poem which Acharya wrote on completing 35 years in the service which is like an icing on the cake which captures the essence of every youngsters dream to become a bureaucrat and the high’s and low’s after becoming one.
Keep this book close by so that whenever you feel down and out, just a glance will rev you up. It will bring a smile on your face, every single time. (Dr. Ramesh Srirangam, Cartoonist and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon)
