The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board is intensifying its enforcement efforts against unauthorized water connections and illegal motor installations across the city.
During inspections, vigilance officials registered a criminal case against an individual for illegally obtaining a water connection at a construction site in Banjara Hills under the NIMS expansion project. The unauthorized connection, discovered by O&M Division-6 authorities, violated municipal regulations, leading to legal action against project in-charge Nagendra Babu under Sections 326(A) and BNS 303(2), along with provisions of the PDPP Act. Officials have warned that similar violations will result in criminal charges.
Meanwhile, as part of its Motor-Free Tap Drive, HMWSSB seized 32 illegal motors attached to pipelines during inspections on Saturday. Another 42 consumers were penalized for water wastage. Residents using unauthorized motors to extract municipal water face strict penalties, including a ₹5,000 fine for repeat offenses.
Authorities urge citizens to avoid illegal connections and report supply issues through their nearest water board officials or the customer care helpline 155313. The crackdown aims to safeguard municipal water resources and ensure equitable distribution across Hyderabad.
