The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a Rs 240-crore comprehensive drinking water supply project for Vinukonda, with Energy Minister and Palnadu district in-charge minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar asserting that basic infrastructure and improved living standards remain the government’s central priorities.

Laying the foundation stone for the project on Sunday, Gottipati said it would provide a long-term solution to the drinking water needs of more than 50,000 residents of Vinukonda. He directed contractors to complete the project within two years without compromising on quality and stressed that infrastructure must be built on a durable basis rather than as short-term measures.

The minister said the government was pursuing a broader infrastructure programme covering both urban and rural areas. Across Andhra Pradesh, 1,392 road projects worth Rs 2,123 crore have been taken up since the coalition government assumed office, he said. Palnadu district alone accounts for 35 road projects worth Rs 71 crore. The government is also planning Rs 10,000 crore worth of works across the state for drinking water supply, drainage systems, restoration and development of tanks, and parks. Gottipati said the focus was to ensure that development was not confined to cities but extended to villages and smaller towns as well.

Gottipati also said the government would examine pension requests brought to his attention during the visit and work towards extending benefits to all eligible beneficiaries, subject to the state’s financial position. He further assured that stalled TIDCO housing projects would be completed and houses handed over to eligible beneficiaries. The minister said the coalition government’s agenda would remain centered on development, welfare and delivery of essential services, rather than political considerations. Chief Whip and Vinukonda MLA G.V. Anjaneyulu, Narasaraopet MP Sri Krishnadevarayalu, officials and coalition leaders attended the program.
