Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday distributed Rs 285 crore as crop loss compensation to over 2.51 lakh farmers across the state, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting cultivators from natural calamities. The assistance was provided under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and the Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana during a programme held in Lucknow.
Addressing beneficiaries, the chief minister said farmers who insure their crops are entitled to financial aid in case of losses due to disasters. He described the compensation as crucial support for the state’s ‘annadata’ and directed district magistrates to ensure that the funds are credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts without delay. A total of Rs 460 crore was transferred directly through DBT, eliminating middlemen.
In addition, Rs 175 crore was distributed to 3,500 families under the accident insurance scheme, which provides Rs 5 lakh in case of a farmer’s accidental death. So far, over Rs 1,000 crore has been disbursed under the scheme, including Rs 561.86 crore given to 11,690 beneficiaries in June 2025.
Adityanath also laid foundation stones for new agriculture offices, soil testing labs and a hostel facility, and announced installation of Doppler Weather Radars in key cities to strengthen disaster preparedness. He said Rs 876 crore has been allocated to the State Disaster Response Fund for 2025-26 to support affected families and farmers.
