Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud has provided key insights into the selection process for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Telangana. Speaking on the matter, Goud announced that a final decision on the candidates for the two available seats will be made within the next two days.
He emphasized the party's strong position, noting that with its current strength in the state assembly, Congress is poised to secure both seats comfortably. Additionally, Goud highlighted potential support from 10 MLAs who recently defected from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), further bolstering the party's prospects.
This announcement comes ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's scheduled visit to Telangana on March 1, which is expected to energize the cadre and align with the finalization of nominations. Reports suggest that the party high command has already shortlisted candidates, though specific names have not been disclosed yet. Goud's comments aim to address speculation and underline the streamlined decision-making process under the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership.
In a related development, State Planning Commission Vice Chairman Dr. G. Chinna Reddy met AICC President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, at Indira Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday. During the meeting, Chinna Reddy presented a bouquet and briefed Kharge on Telangana's recent political landscape. He highlighted the Congress party's resounding successes under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, including capturing 70% of sarpanch positions and 90% of municipal seats in local elections. Chinna Reddy assured continued momentum for upcoming MPTC and ZPTC polls, as well as any future elections.
Kharge commended the collective efforts of Congress leaders and representatives in the state for these achievements. Chinna Reddy also reminded Kharge of a promise made by the party high command two years ago during the assembly elections. At that time, Chinna Reddy had withdrawn his B-form candidacy from the Wanaparthy constituency, with assurances of a Rajya Sabha nomination in return. He urged Kharge to honor this commitment, emphasizing his loyalty and contributions to the party.
