Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and BJP senior leader Bandi Sanjay refuted allegations that Telangana was unfairly treated in the Union Budget 2025 and said that the state got an allocation of Rs 1.08 lakh crore.
In a media conference held in Hyderabad on Thursday, Sanjay criticized Congress leaders for spreading misinformation to divert attention from their failure to implement their six guarantees, likening their approach to that of the previous BRS government. He also gave a detailed breakdown with sector-wise allocation.
Bandi Sanjay said that Centre allocated Rs 1.08 lakh crore to Telangana, with major allocations including Rs 29,899 crore for tax devolution, a 10% increase from last year, and Rs 21,075 crore in grants. Infrastructure received Rs 28,302 crore, with Rs 15,640 crore for national highways. Railways saw Rs 5,336 crore, while power, energy, and irrigation were allotted Rs 10,285 crore. Key sectors such as health (Rs 5,790 crore), education (Rs 4,930 crore), and agriculture (Rs 5,920 crore) received significant funding. Additionally, Rs 6,320 crore was earmarked for village and town development, alongside Rs 5,420 crore for Direct Benefit Transfers.
Bandi Sanjay emphasized that the Union Finance Minister not mentioning Telangana by name during the budget speech was not intentional, reasoning that not all states can be specifically named. As regards Krishna water row, the minister blamed both the Congress and BRS for the injustice done to Telangana in the Krishna water-sharing agreement and demanded a public apology. He accused former Chief Minister KCR of compromising Telangana’s rightful share by signing a contract that allocated only 299 TMC instead of 575 TMC.
Taking a dig at BRS, Bandi Sanjay mocked its inability to field candidates in the MLC elections, claiming that BRS and Congress have a covert understanding to benefit Congress in the upcoming MLC elections. He expressed confidence that BJP would win all three MLC seats, stating that teachers, graduates, and the public are disillusioned with Congress’s governance and would teach a fitting lesson.
Bandi Sanjay questioned no action by the Congress government against KCR or KTR after investigating corruption cases, including the Kaleshwaram project, drug allegations, phone tapping case, and the Formula E scam. He also demanded a thorough probe into the murder of B. Rajalingamurthy, who had exposed corruption in the Kaleshwaram project.
Questioning contradictions in the caste census, Bandi Sanjay pointed out discrepancies in Telangana’s population figures, noting that the Aadhaar database shows 3.95 crore registrations, while official population figures stand at 3.7 crore. He reiterated the BJP’s opposition to religious-based reservations.
