The Telangana government has unveiled an ambitious plan to add 20,000 MW of renewable energy and storage capacity by 2030. This transformative initiative is part of the state’s commitment to achieving sustainable development and addressing the growing energy demands of its rapidly expanding economy, informed Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday.
Driving renewable energy growth
Speaking at the stakeholder consultation for Telangana’s Clean and Green Energy Policy held at HICC, Madhapur on Friday, the Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the state’s substantial renewable energy potential.
“Telangana is blessed with over 300 days of sunshine annually and ranks among the top eight states for wind power potential. We are committed to leveraging these resources to create a resilient and sustainable energy sector,” he said.
The state’s current renewable energy capacity stands at 11,399 MW, comprising 7,889 MW of Solar, 221 MW of Wind, and 2,518 MW of Hydro Energy. Plans are underway to scale this capacity through innovative solutions like floating solar projects, Renewable Energy Round-the-Clock (RE-RTC) initiatives, and green hydrogen production and encouragement to Start-ups in this sector.
The government’s approval and commitment to this initiative could mark a new era in Telangana’s education system, addressing current deficiencies and providing a one-stop solution for school and secondary education needs.
The TPS initiative is going to empower students with quality education, equitable opportunities, and a promising future. These institutions will set a benchmark for public schooling, eliminating the inadequacies of existing government schools, such as single-room setups, insufficient faculty, and lack of infrastructure.
