Telangana Govt lays foundation for 480 houses

Metro India News | Hyderabad : Telangana Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for 'Indiramma Towers' under the state government's housing scheme for the poor at Red Hills in the Nampally Assembly constituency here. Speaking at the event, the Revenue and Housing minister said 480 beneficiaries had been selected through a transparent draw of lots and construction of the towers would be completed within a year. He said more beneficiaries would be selected in three subsequent phases.

Despite an acre of land in Hyderabad costing about Rs 200-250 crore, the Congress government had chosen to prioritise housing for the poor over generating revenue through land auctions, he said.

Reddy claimed that the previous governments had built houses for the poor at locations 30-40 km from the city, making it difficult for beneficiaries to commute. He said the government would construct twice as many houses in the first phase as the BRS regime had built during its 10-year tenure.

The government had earlier announced plans to construct one lakh housing units in multi-storey towers across Hyderabad.

State Minority Affairs Minister Mohammad Azharuddin, Congress Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav and AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain were present on the occasion.

Maintain communal harmony, says Azharuddin

Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin urged beneficiaries of the Indiramma Housing Scheme to maintain communal harmony, cooperate with authorities and work collectively for the development of Telangana.

Azharuddin said the housing project reflected the government’s efforts to turn the long-cherished dream of owning a house into reality for eligible families.

The Minister urged beneficiaries to remain united and extend full cooperation to the authorities to ensure the timely completion of the project. He said coordination among the government, officials and beneficiaries would be crucial for the smooth implementation of the scheme.

Azharuddin noted that the Indiramma Towers were being constructed on valuable land in a prime location in the city. Providing housing to eligible families in such a central area, he said, would give them better access to essential facilities and opportunities.
