‘Governance needs a reset in administrative reforms’

Metro India News | AMARAVATI : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for a fundamental shift in governance, with continuous skill development, technology-driven processes and improved public services forming the basis of administrative reforms.

Addressing the first southern regional conference of Mission Karmayogi, organised by the Capacity Building Commission in Vijayawada on Tuesday, Naidu said the next two decades would be crucial for India’s development and government institutions would have to transform to meet changing public expectations.

The two-day Sadhana Shrunkhala-2026 conference brought together officials and representatives of training institutions from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Puducherry. 

Naidu said training institutions should move beyond conducting courses and issuing certificates. 

Andhra Pradesh secured the first position in capacity building among government employees, followed by Karnataka and Odisha. Naidu presented awards to representatives of the three States. Finance Secretary Piyush Kumar and AP State Development Planning Society Executive Director V.R. Alaparti received the award for Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu said around 7.89 lakh AP government employees had registered on iGOT under Mission Karmayogi and completed more than two crore courses, putting the State first nationally in courses completed. 

He cited the need for trained revenue officials to resolve citizens’ problems faster, teachers to improve classroom instruction and police personnel to respond more humanely.

Naidu said digitising outdated procedures did not amount to modern governance. Multiple approvals for online applications and requiring citizens to visit offices despite digital services should be eliminated. He advocated simplifying unnecessary regulations, referring to reforms such as the Jan Vishwas initiative.
